Our History
Our Bible Institute began in 1977 as Trinity Baptist College and Seminary, a ministry of Trinity Baptist Temple (Knoxville, TN) under the leadership of the church's founding pastor, Dr. Luther Adkins. Dr. Adkins started the school with a desire to provide honest Bible training to those who wanted to learn the word of God. Under the leadership of the church's second pastor, Dr. David F. Reagan, the church name was changed from Trinity Baptist Temple to Antioch Baptist Church. The main reason for the change was the confusion incurred because of the numerous Trinitys and Temples in the Knoxville area. Following suit, Trinity Baptist College and Seminary became Antioch Baptist College. Toward the end of Dr. Reagan's life, the school was forced to undergo another name change (due to a threat of legal action by another Antioch College) and became known as Scripture Baptist College. The school operated under that title until 2009 when the third and current pastor, Dr. Andrew B. Ray, changed the name to Antioch Baptist Bible Institute. This decision was made for multiple reasons. For one, this brings the school back into a closer association with the local church. Secondly, identifying the school as a Bible Institute more accurately describes the nature of the education provided by our school.
Although the school has gone through several name changes, perhaps the greater change is in the way in which classes can be taken. Under Dr. Reagan's ministry a desire was expressed that our local classes would become available for students in other locations via correspondence courses. This began on a small-scale via cassette tapes and printed notes and eventually grew to include some classes uploaded to LearntheBible.org under the auspice of Learn the Bible University, but it was not until 2017, that this dream fully became a reality. Now, correspondent students have access to classroom videos and notes just like the students who attend locally in Knoxville, TN. Despite all the changes, our stand remains unwavering; our purpose remains anchored; our content still majors on a verse-by-verse understanding of God's holy word in the King James Bible. Even with our expansion in scope, our classes remain FREE of charge.

How To Enroll
Anyone, whether enrolled or not, can view the classes and download the notes. Some people are hesitant to enroll in anything online and we completely understand that apprehension and have made the resources available to you with or without any registration on your part. However, only registered students can accrue credits and pursue degrees in Biblical studies through our Institute. As such, it is not without benefit on your part to enroll and study with us as a registered student.
Before enrolling in Antioch Baptist Bible Institute, whether as an in-house student or via correspondence courses, one should understand our position on accreditation. Our institute seeks accreditation from no one. According to the Scriptures, the local church has only one head, and His name is Jesus Christ. We are developing a course of study as God leads, not as committees would demand. Neither do we have or seek state approval for our school. Our credits stand on their own merits. Many Bible colleges are state approved, yet their credits are no more respected in universities than ours. With us, this is a matter of conviction. If you are looking for state approved education, we are not the right school for you.
As to how our credits will be accepted at other colleges, some points need to be made. First, every school is its own authority when deciding what credits to accept or reject. Second, most secular schools will not accept any credits or degrees from Bible colleges. A claim of accreditation by a Bible school usually means little or nothing in practice. We refuse to make you think you are getting something you are not. If you want a guarantee that your credits will be accepted at major colleges or universities, we recommend you go somewhere else. We have no intention of submitting to worldly control over our curriculum or pattern of education. We stand on the free exercise of religion in this country.
If, after reading the above information regarding registration and accreditation, you still desire to enroll with us, please consider the following steps to complete the enrollment process.
- If you are a first-time student to our Institute or have only taken courses through LTBU online, you will need to fill out a Student Application.
