Blessings for Job

INTRODUCTION: God shows through Job that what really matters is how things turn out in the end. Much of scripture points to the importance of considering the end of a thing. The Lord longed concerning Israel, “O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!” (Deuteronomy 32:29).

1. THE REPENTENCE OF JOB (Job 42:1-6)
1. His Exaltation of God (Job 42:1-2)
1. The answer of Job to the Lord (Job 42:1)
2. The almighty power of God (Job 42:2a) canst do every thing (Genesis 18:14; Jeremiah 32:17; Luke 1:37)
3. The absolute knowledge of God (Job 42:2b) no thought can be withholden (Psalm 94:11; Psalm 139:2)
2. His Acknowledgement of Guilt (Job 42:3-4)
1. By hiding counsel by words without knowledge (Job 42:3)
1. Job quoted the Lord (Job 38:2).
2. Job admitted his guilt in his words.
1. By uttering things he did not understand
2. By dealing with things too wonderful for him
3. By speaking of that which he knew not
2. By demanding an answer from the Lord (Job 42:4) - Job quoted the Lord (Job 38:3; Job 40:7); these words came at the beginning of each of the speeches of God to Job.
3. His Abasement of Self (Job 42:5-6)
1. His greater knowledge of God (Job 42:5)
1. He had heard of Him.
2. But now he has seen Him.

3. Note: a greater knowledge of God always leads to a greater, though humiliating, knowledge of self (Isaiah 6:1-5).
2. THE INTERCESSION OF JOB (Job 42:7-9)

1. Ye (Eliphaz and his friends) have not spoken of God the thing that is right.

1. God will accept Job.

3. THE BLESSINGS OF JOB (Job 42:10-17)
1. The Statement of Blessing (Job 42:10)
1. Job prayed for his friends; Note: When Job sought forgiveness for those who had wronged him, God gave him a double blessing.
2. The Lord turned the captivity of Job; Note: It is important to note that the time of Jobs trials was called his captivity. Besides being a powerful picture of times of trials, it points to the connection of Job with the time of tribulation in the end times. The great tribulation is a time of 42 months (Revelation 11:2; Revelation 13:5), as Job is a book of 42 chapters. This time is also called the time of Jacobs trouble and it is at the end of this time that the Jews will be truly freed from the trials of many centuries.
3. The Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before; Note: This lines up with the double portion allotted to the firstborn (Deuteronomy 21:17). Job is here a type of Israel who is Gods firstborn (Exodus 4:22) and will receive a double portion at the end of her captivity (Zechariah 9:12) just as she had received a double portion of judgment for her sins (Isaiah 40:2; Jeremiah 16:18).
2. The Wealth of Job (Job 42:11-12)

3. All they that had been of his acquaintance before
2. Their comfort
1. They ate bread with him in his house.
2. They bemoaned him.
3. They comforted him over the evil the LORD brought upon him.
3. Their gifts
1. A piece of money from each
2. An earring of gold from each
2. His material rewards (Job 42:12)
1. More than his beginning
2. Double what he had from the beginning (Job 1:3)
1. 14,000 sheep
2. 6,000 camels
3. 1,000 yoke of oxen
4. 1,000 she asses
3. The Family of Job (Job 42:13-15)
1. His children (Job 42:13) equal to those he had in the beginning (Job 1:2); Note: This was also a double blessing because children who die never cease to be. If very young or saved, they go to be with the Lord and can be seen in heaven (2 Samuel 12:21-23).
2. His daughters (Job 42:14-15)
1. Named (Job 42:14)
2. Praised (Job 42:15)
3. Heirs (Job 42:15); Note: all are heirs in the kingdom of God (Galatians 3:27-28; Colossians 3:10-11).
4. The Long Life of Job (Job 42:16-17)
1. An additional 140 years of life (Job 42:16)
2. Saw four generations of children (Job 42:16)
3. Died being old and full of days (Job 42:17)

CONCLUSION: Job’s life was peaceful until the Lord disrupted it by mentioning him to the Devil. The vast majority of the Book of Job chronicles this heartache. In the end, the Lord more than restores what He allowed to be taken away from Job in the time of trial. God will always give a man far more than He takes away.
