Corrupt Communication Corrupts (1 Corinthians 15:33)

Introductory Thoughts

The world is constantly bombarded with new means of communication. Yet, with all this so-called communication, people have lost their ability to truly communicate. Unfortunately, the worst types of communication are on the rise. Godly communication has been replaced with shallow, corrupt communication. According to scripture, a person with “good manners” will not maintain those manners for very long once he or she has become accustomed to “evil communications.” This is why Paul warned the believers at Ephesus to “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of” their mouths (Ephesians 4:29). Believers must guard their mouths and ears. What they say and hear now will eventually be what they become in their hearts.

Devotional Thoughts

  • (For children): We need to pray like David to get help with our words (Psalm 19:14; Psalm 141:3). We can know right speech (Proverbs 10:32). A good practice is to think and even take a pause before you speak (Proverbs 15:28).
  • (For everyone): How has your language improved because of the modern means of communication? How has the corruptness of the modern means of communication hurt the purity of your walk with the Lord?
  • A few generations ago, people understood how to communicate properly and they were more respectful toward all others. How has that changed with the introduction of modern means of communication?

Prayer Thoughts

  • Ask the Lord to clean up your communication.
  • Ask the Lord to guard your good manners.
