The following is a quote from p42 of Winsome Christianity by Henry Durbanville:
"Do you believe in good works, Mr Spurgeon?", the great preacher was once asked. "Yes," he replied, "and I also believe in chimney tops; but I do not believe in making chimney tops the foundation of the house".
It's so sad that today there are millions of souls across the world who are genuinely believeing that they can get to Heaven by good works. Whilst good works should be a fruit of being a Christian, they most certainly should not be the means of becoming one.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
"And if by grace then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."
What a great privilege to know that salvation is full, free, complete and only available through the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Do you believe that you're going to Heaven when you die? If so, have you laid the right foundations?
