The kings of the earth rebel against the Lord and against His anointed, who is Jesus Christ (v.1-3). God laughs at their foolishness (v.4) and responds in anger (v.5). He sets up His Son as king (v.6-7). His Son shall possess the earth and rule it with a rod of iron (v.6-9). The kings of the earth are advised to submit to the Son lest they be destroyed in His wrath (v.10-12).
The psalm concludes, “Blessed are all they that put their trust in him” (v.12). We are also to “[s]erve the LORD with fear” (v.11). What does it mean to think of Jesus Christ as our king? What does a king do? How should a righteous king be feared? What actions or thought patterns show that a person is putting their trust in Christ as their king?
