The son of Shammua and a Levite of the family of Jeduthun (Nehemiah 11:17). Abda was one of the Levites chosen to abide in the city of Jerusalem in order to strengthen the population after the rebuilding of the wall under the leadership of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 11:1-2). Abda is evidently the same as Obadiah the son of Shemaiah in 1Chronicles 9:16.
